Dear Editor,
We would like to share ideas on “A higher body mass index means worse satisfaction outcome in obese patients undergoing varicose vein surgery.[1]” Premnath et al. concluded that “The higher the BMI, the lesser the … successfully with a high satisfaction rate for BMI class 1 and 2.”[1] We agree that body mass index (BMI) might affect the outcomes of varicose vein surgery. Data on outcome in this report are collected through telephone which might not be reliable and the satisfactory might be a subjective indicator. Indeed, in a previous report, there was no association between BMI and clinical symptoms of varicose vein.[2] The present report might give an opposite clue on the effect of BMI on varicose vein and its management. Indeed, outcome of the surgery depends on many factors (such as personal illness of patient, surgical technique, and experience of surgeon). Effects of other factors such as concomitant medical problems, as confounding factors, should also be further assessed.
